Pinot noir (vitis vinifera) is a red wine grape and as well the wine created predominantly from Pinot noir grapes. The name comes from French for "pine" and "black" referencing the tightly clustered dark purple pine cone-shaped bunches of fruit. Many believe it produces some of the finest wines in the world, but is a difficult variety to cultivate and transform into wine.
